“Quickness” is the title of one of the chapters of Italo Calvino’s Six Memos for the Next Millennium (1988) and it is a reference that was ever-present throughout the conversations that Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza, Chairwoman and Founder of TBA21; Himali Singh Soin, artist; and Soledad Gutiérrez, Curator at TBA21 had during the process of the creation of Singh Soin’s three experimental audio chapters that are now presented on st_age. The working process unfolded during the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In this 50 minute conversation Singh Soin and Gutiérrez are joined by the musician David Soin Tappeser in a discussion that entangles questions around this global crisis together with those arising from Calvino’s text. What does time mean within this moment of “pause”? What is the role of the artist as a medium, and how does art relate to changing circumstances? What is the meaning of love? These are just some of the subjects that are tackled in On Quickness.
